Landy Luther
Secretary
I moved from Columbia, MO to the Port St. Joe area in January of 2004. I had not fully retired and I was looking for some activities that would help me get acquainted with the local area. Our home is located on a peninsula known as Indian Pass. The peninsula is located about 15 miles from Port St. Joe and is surrounded by the Apalachicola Bay on the north and east and the Gulf of Mexico on the south. I became aware of the barrier islands located not too far from our house.
I learned that there were wagon tours of the St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge. I was fortunate enough to participate in one of the tours. I was amazed by the flora and fauna of this magical place.
I learned that there was a volunteer organization that supported and promoted the Refuge. Long story short, I joined the Friends group (it was then known as the Supporters of St. Vincent NWR) and also became a member of Sea Turtle Patrol group. Since 2009, I have held several positions on the Friends board and I am currently the Secretary of this terrific organization.
